Posters of the Second World War

By: Richard Slocombe

Drawing on the depth of the Museum’s art collection, this book takes a look at some of the most iconic and easily identifiable images of the Second World War - the posters.

Reproduced in full colour with an introduction and explanatory notes by Senior Art Curator Richard Slocombe, this book explores the British government’s use of propaganda throughout the war years, ranging from the well-known ‘Dig For Victory’ to more obscure campaigns.

A picture paints a thousand words - especially propaganda posters. I was delighted by how one could learn so much about the concerns and priorities in the British war effort just by flipping through these posters. In Singapore, we have no lack of such campaign posters too, except that today, the national cause needing your support is reducing your daily salt and sugar intake :) and oh yes, remember to scan the QR code!
