Synopsis
A book about Singapore athletics from the 1930s to today, Lasting Strides captures from a layman’s perspective some of the high moments in the history of local track & field. They include Ng Liang Chiang’s gold medal in the 1951 Asian Games in New Delhi, the phenomenal success of our team at the 1973 SEAP Games in Singapore, Chee Swee Lee’s triumph in the 400m at the 1974 Asian Games in Tehran, C. Kunalan’s achievements as a top sprinter as well as long distance star K. Jayamani’s domination at the Southeast Asian Games. The book is also a tribute to one of the pioneers of local athletics, Goh Teck Phuan, who played an influential role in the success of some of our top athletes.

Contributor's Note
This is a book that offers a historical perspective on athletics in Singapore via-à-vis the impact of colonial legacies and the shadow of World War II. Within the pages, there are also tenderly-written personal accounts of notable athletes, in particular Goh Teck Phuan, who was a founding Secretary and President of the Swift Athletes Association.
